Local Church History
Following a mandate given to him by the Lord to “gather the children,” Pastor Derrick Jackson set out on a journey of faith to organize a music group that would minister in and around the Treasure Coast. The first attempt to organize a group of this nature began in April 2005, when he invited families in Port St. Lucie to join him and his family in an Easter Egg Hunt activity.
This was a very successful venture which led to the weekly Sunday evening Bible Study in his home. The need for a larger accommodation became evident and hence the relocation to a small room at the Port St Lucie Community Center on November, 2005. While the focus of these meetings is to teach music to young minds, special emphasis is also placed on Bible Study. Each week participants were asked to read a selected chapter from the bible for discussion the following week. To spark participation and to evaluate learning, a quiz is given occasionally.
Music is the highlight of this ministry and our youth must be commended for the interest they continue to show in learning to play these various instruments. It is very encouraging to see enthusiastic young men and ladies eagerly attend Saturday evening rehearsals and Sunday evening performances. The goal is to continue to motivate and pray for them so that they in turn will use their talents to minister to others. Life Line Ministries continues to seek for musicians who have a passion for reaching youths with the gospel of Jesus Christ through music and is currently searching for multi-talented individuals to add to our existing group of musicians.
We continued to conduct music practices and bible studies at the community center until the decision was made to start Sunday morning worship services under the pavilion adjacent to the community. In addition to Sunday morning worship services we continue to conduct music practices and bible studies in said space for almost a year - through rain, heat, wind and cold. God smiled upon us and created an opening at the Port St Lucie community center where we currently worship. We were officially organized by the state of Florida (COGOP) as a local congregation on January 20, 2008. We currently have 57 members with an average of 60 in attendance for Sunday morning worship.
The Church of God of Prophecy Organization
While our location has only been in existence for a few years, the umbrella under which we operate was organized more than 100 years ago.
The Church of God of Prophecy is a vibrant, worldwide body of believers, united in worship, working hand-in-hand to share God’s love and a message of hope to the broken-hearted. The Church of God of Prophecy has over one million members, worshipping in over 10,000 organized churches or missions in 125 nations of the world.
The Church of God movement began over one hundred years ago in the humble hearts of earnest believers in the rural mountains of Cherokee County, North Carolina. Soon led by an energetic young pastor from Indiana named A.J. Tomlinson, the group was more formally organized in 1903 into the Church of God and relocated its headquarters to neighboring Cleveland, Tennessee. Today, the organizational structure of the Church of God of Prophecy exists and operates at three interdependent levels – international, regional or state, and local.
